SIDORCHUK: We met Scots who said “glory to Ukraine”
Ukrainian national team midfielder Serhiy Sydorchuk told how fans of the Scottish national team reacted to the Ukrainians in Glasgow on the eve of the 2022 World Cup qualifying match.
“I think at the beginning of the match it will be very difficult – this is 100%. Ukraine’s first official game since the Russian occupation. We really need the World Cup, it has been a great encouragement for the Ukrainian people.
As for the fans, we met the Scots at the march: “Glory to Ukraine”. They said Hampden Park would be hell for us. Let’s hope this is not the case and the Ukrainian diaspora will also take part in the stadium,” he said.
The World Cup playoff match between Scotland and Ukraine will be played on 1 June in Glasgow. From 21:45 Kyiv time. The winner will play Wales in the qualifying final.
