Petrakov: “We played for those who fight to the last drop of blood”
The coach of the national team of Ukraine Alexander Petrakov said that his players played to the last drop of their blood for all their compatriots who are going through difficult times, but also for those who are fighting in the trenches.
Alexander Petrakov, speaking in a press conference immediately after Ukraine’s win over Scotland in the play-offs for World Cup qualifying, referred to the difficult times the Ukrainian people are going through due to the Russian military invasion of their country.
The Ukrainian national coach emphasized that his team plays for everyone who is at home, but especially for members of the armed forces who are in the trenches or in hospital.
“That win wasn’t for me, it wasn’t for the team, it was for our country. This is a great victory for Ukraine. It was a team effort. They did everything for the people who play.
They played for the Ukrainians, the people watching the game from their homes, the army personnel who are either in the trenches or in the hospitals.
You say thank you and we return your gratitude. We played for those who fight in the trenches, who give the last drop of their blood in battle. We play for the people who suffer every day‘ said Alexander Petrakov, among others.
