Baggio: ‘Scandal and madness that Italy, as holders of the euro, are not going to the World Cup’
Roberto Baggio didn’t hide his anger at the absence of the Italian national team from the finals of the World Cup in Qatar, despite being a Euro holder, calling the event crazy and calling for FIFA to change the rules.
Roberto Mancini Azura’s side made Italy happy in the summer of 2021 by winning the Euro and returning to the top of Europe after the distant 1968, but a few months later came the painful defeat to North Macedonia that eliminated Italy from the World Cup second consecutive year after Russia in 2018.
That fact plunged the Azzurri crowd into sorrow and melancholy, but at the same time made some people complain about the world governing body’s system, including Roberto Baggio.
“Italy is suffering from being excluded from the World Cup. For me it’s a scandal that Italy, as the defending European champions, didn’t go to the World Cup.
The rules had to be changed. It’s absurd, it’s pure madness. “If I was part of the team, it would be even more bitter for me. It’s very difficult to handle.”with his statements today, underlined the “divine braid” of Italian football and one of Calcio’s most important players for 30 years, adding:
“I’m not criticizing the opponents but we’re going to stay at home for a 90-minute game. Mancini did something amazing, everyone should respect him and he should keep working with the youngsters like he’s done so far.”
We have talent that has no place in our league. The problem is known.”
