Yuri GABOVDA: “Mudrik needs full trust and support”
Former Karpaty Lviv midfielder Yuriy Gabovda shared his views on the rising star of Shakhtar Donetsk and the Ukraine national team Mykhailo Mudryka.
“My opinion of Mudrik hasn’t changed. A few years ago, if I were a coach, then I would have forgiven this guy a lot on the football field and given him big chances in the Premier League, so I said, “he fills the bumps,” as they say.
In my opinion, this is the player who needs full confidence and support, and he will not neglect it, on the contrary, fly forward with wide wings! There are players who are spoiled by this and the player stops demanding more of himself and stops growing but it seems to me that Mudryk is different, so I think this is the present and future of Ukrainian football!” said Gabovda.

“World Cup rivals? To be honest, it’s hard to talk about it right now. I know the match with Sweden for sure, but I still can’t quite understand what kind of rivals we are talking about. Of course, the World Championship is a very important and big goal. The last time the Ukrainian national team played there was in 2006, so it would definitely be very, very nice for us. But don’t just go out, make yourself look good, try to stand out from the group.
Therefore, the first task is to participate in the World Championship. I think this is a goal and a dream not only for the players, but also for all the fans and all Ukrainians. “When the national team plays, everyone watches football, even those who don’t follow it much.”
