OFFICIALLY. Ecuador not removed from the list of 2022 World Cup participants
The International Football Federation has decided to close the disciplinary case against the Ecuadorian national team.
Earlier, the Chilean Football Federation filed a complaint with FIFA about possible forgery in the documents of one of the players of the Ecuadorian team.
FIFA issued a statement stating that all statements of both parties and the documents submitted were carefully examined and then it was decided to close the disciplinary case. If the Chilean Football Federation wishes to appeal this decision, it must file an appeal within 10 days.
On Wednesday, a lawyer for the Chile national team reportedly found evidence that defender Byron Castillo was Colombian and did not qualify to play for the Ecuadorian national team. With this, the Chilean Football Federation hoped that points would be deducted from Ecuador and then the Chilean team would be ahead of him in the 2022 World Cup selection.
