Beckham: ‘The whole of England forgave me after scoring against Greece’
David Beckham recalled the goal he scored with England against Greece in World Cup qualifying in 2001 and stressed that thanks to it, English fans forgave them the Reds in 1998.
On October 6, 2001 against Greece, David Beckham scored one of those goals that few English fans have loved, robbing the blue and white team at Old Trafford during the 2002 World Cup qualifiers in South Korea and South Korea.
The legendary Manchester United veteran looked back on the talk show, where he reminisced about the best and worst moments of his career, among other things.
One of the highlights was the goal against our national team, for which he even stressed that the English fans would forgive him the red card he was threatened with at the 1998 World Cup against Argentina for a free-kick against Diego Simone.
“I think thanks to the goal against Greece, most of the nation has forgiven me for what I did four years ago. And I think that was probably the moment. Yes, they were England fans, fans of every team, whether West Ham , Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool fans have forgiven me.
The game was so important for our country and such a special moment. “I felt like forgiveness had finally come after what I had done four years earlier and my expulsion from Argentina.”
