Infantino: ‘Every two years, the World Cup could prevent Africans from crossing the Mediterranean’
The Council of Europe, which includes 47 countries on the continent and its eastern periphery, five as observers and three as observers, was not convinced by Infantino.
While praising FIFA’s efforts on other issues previously raised by its president, such as labor reforms in Qatar ahead of the 2022 World Cup, the CoC rejected the proposal, arguing that it would pose major problems for European football and the Olympics Games would cause as it coincides with the top soccer event.
“The Council questions the validity of FIFA’s plan to host the World Cup every two years. “It could also damage the entire sports ecosystem, with two major world sporting events, the World Cup and the Olympics, competing for television coverage and therefore financial support.” states the CoC in its conclusions on this subject.
