FIFA decides to deploy semi-automated offside technology in Qatar stadiums
A major technological innovation is being implemented at the forthcoming World Cup, with FIFA announcing that the semi-automatic official will be deployed at stadiums in Qatar.
The semi-automatic offside technology has so far been tested at various FIFA-sponsored football tournaments, including the 2021 Club World Cup, but in a few months it will be taken to the next level.
This is none other than the final stages of the World Cup, with FIFA issuing a statement confirming that semi-automated offside technology is being deployed in Qatar’s stadiums with the aim of allowing one-field referees and those controlling the VAR to make decisions faster and safer.
How exactly are referees helped? As has been revealed, under the roof of each stadium where this technology is used, 12 cameras are placed to “capture” the ball, as well as 29 precision points from each player to calculate each player’s exact position on the field.
Once a decision is made, an exact replica of the phase is created in 3D animation, which is shown on both the stadium matrices and the TV receivers, so everyone – spectators and TV viewers – knows exactly what happened at each phase.
