Sean: “I was racist in Germany, I took revenge when we KO’d them at the World Cup”

Son first revealed he was a victim of racism while playing for the Hamburg academies and explained how he took revenge when South Korea beat Germany in the World Cup group stage

Sean was just 16 years old when he left South Korea and moved to the Hamburg Academies in Germany.

In 2010 he signed his first professional contract with the team, three years later he moved to Leverkusen. The hospitality of the Germans wasn’t the best for Sean, however, as he revealed at an event he attended in Seoul.

In particular, Tottenham’s top scorer in the Premier League revealed he had received racist attacks that created negative feelings about his country and his world.

However, he got his revenge when South Korea beat Germany 2-0 at the 2018 World Cup, knocking them out. In fact, Sean had scored the second goal.

“I moved to Germany at a young age and went through many difficult and unimaginable times. I faced a lot of racist attitudes. And while I was going through such a difficult time, I had many thoughts on my mind, such as that one day I will have to have my revenge.

When people cry, I usually want to comfort them and hug them. But when I saw the Germans (at the World Cup) crying, I felt like I could get my revenge on them by doing what I love.”

INFANTINO: “If there was no FIFA, there would be no football in 150 countries of the world”

FIFA President Gianni Infantino He commented on World Cup ticket prices, saying they reflected “absolutely insane” demand for next summer’s tournament:

“We have six to seven million tickets and in 15 days we received 150 million ticket requests. So every day we have 10 million requests. This shows how strong the World Cup is.”

FIFA has sold just 44 million tickets in almost 100 years of the World Cup. So we were able to sell tickets for the 300th anniversary of the World Cup in two weeks. Just imagine. “This is absolutely crazy.”

Infantino also noted that funds from ticket sales would be reinvested into world football, but did not specify a specific amount:

“The important thing is that the revenue from this goes back into football around the world. If it weren’t for FIFA, there would be no football in 150 countries of the world. Football exists thanks to the revenues we get from the World Cup, and we reinvest that into football around the world.”

Previously, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called on FIFA to further reduce 2026 World Cup ticket prices.
