“In the relay, it’s like I turned into a robot” – Kazakevich about the death of his father during the Olympics
Olympic silver medalist biathlete Irina Kazakevich spoke about her emotional state during the Olympic relay race in Beijing on the day of her father’s funeral.
“I found out about my dad’s death after the pursuit. There were two days left before the relay. Well, those two days were. Mikhail Viktorovich somehow managed to switch me, I practically never stayed alone. A day before the relay, I told myself that I would give vent to my emotions only after the end of my stage. And so it happened. I can’t describe what I felt then. It seems to be such a cool result, but I have emptiness inside. Emotions directly from the medal came a little later. At the medal ceremony, my hands were shaking.
And during the race, I turned into a robot. For the first time in my life. I just ran and fired without feeling anything at all. It’s probably right, because I had to do my job, I couldn’t let the team down, Kazakevich quotes the words “Championship”.
