Russian athletes continue to prepare for the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Paris 2024. In the event that they are not allowed to compete, an alternative tournament will be held in Russia, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko told Interfax.

– The Russian team continues to prepare for the Games. If they don’t, then there will be alternative competitions, as we did with the Paralympic Games in Khanty-Mansiysk.

We are working on a program for our national teams and continue to prepare them, despite the sanctions restrictions. Training is carried out at our five federal sports bases, regional facilities. On behalf of the President, we are rapidly replacing the venues where our national teams trained and which ended up in unfriendly countries. Therefore, now is just the time to create them here, especially in the conditions of middle mountains for endurance training,” Chernyshenko noted.

Also, according to the Deputy Prime Minister, in 2022 more than 210 international sports competitions in 50 sports were planned in Russia, including the Friendship Games and We Are Together.

“Now the All-Russian Spartakiad in summer sports among the strongest athletes of our country continues, it takes place from August 10 to October 2 in 39 Olympic sports – exactly the same program as at the Games to be held in Paris,” concluded the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation .

Earlier, the IOC called on international sports federations to remove athletes from Russia and Belarus from official competitions in connection with the situation in Ukraine.
