Before the Olympic adventure in Beijing begins, the Canadian men’s hockey team announced the identity of the players who will form its group of leaders on Tuesday evening.

Thus, without much surprise, the veteran center player Eric Staal will act as captain during these Olympic Games (February 4-20), he who totaled 1,293 games in the NHL and won gold at the Vancouver Games in 2010.

Staal will be supported by two Quebecers, former CH David Desharnais, and Montreal defender Maxim Noreau, who was in the 2018 edition in Pyeongchang.

The formation of 25 players was announced on January 25. The group led by Jeremy Colliton flew to Davos, Switzerland, for an eight-day preparatory camp before the trip to China.

A preparatory match scheduled for today against the Swiss team in Zug has however been cancelled. The Canadian squad instead played an intrasquad game.

Canada will open its tournament on February 10 against Germany, before continuing with two more preliminary matches against the United States and China on February 12 and 13.
