Although some competitions have already started, today the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics took place to officially announce the start of the Olympics.

Here is an overview of the Canadian athletes to follow on the 1st day of the Beijing Olympics (the times indicated are those of Quebec).

Women’s Slopestyle (9:45 p.m.)

Snowboarders Laurie Blouin, Brooke Voigt and Jasmine Baird will attempt to qualify for the final at Genting Snow Park. They will compete in two qualifying rounds.

Ice Hockey (11:10 p.m.)

After a dominant 12-1 victory over Switzerland, the Canadian women’s team now faces Finland in Group A.

The Finns lost their first match 5-2 against the United States.

Curling (1h05)

At 1:05 am Canada is playing a third mixed doubles match, in the round robin stage, this time against Sweden.

Rachel Homan and John Morris are 1-1 so far.

They will return to action at 7 a.m. against the United States.

Women’s skiathlon 7.5 km + 7.5 km (2 h 45)

Canada will have four representatives at this competition, namely Quebecer Cendrine Browne, as well as Katherine Stewart-Jones, Olivia Bouffard-Nesbitt and Dahria Beatty.

Long Track – Women’s 3000m (3:30 a.m.)

Skaters Isabelle Weidemann, Ivanie Blondin and Valérie Maltais will be ones to watch in this most spectacular event.

Biathlon (4 hours)

The Canadian team competes in the 4 x 6 km mixed relay. In total, twenty nations take part in this event.

Freestyle skiing (5 h)

The king of moguls Mikaël Kingsbury scored the best score in the first qualifying session and has therefore already reached the final.

Laurent Dumais however finished 24and and will therefore play the second qualifying session.

The final round involving Kingsbury will be presented at 6:30 a.m.

Short track – men and women (6 h)

After winning three medals at the Pyeonchang Games in 2018, Kim Boutin is kicking off her second Games with the 500m.

His compatriots Alyson Charles and Florence Brunelle will also try to pass this stage bringing together 32 skaters.

On the men’s side, presentation of the men’s 1000m qualifications, in which Pascal Dion and Jordan Pierre-Gilles take part.

We will also be entitled to the mixed 2000 m relay. Canada will be in a quarter-final heat with the Netherlands, France and Kazakhstan.
