Gymnast Tatareva: “Probably, the conversation with Wiener after the Olympic final in Tokyo was much more expensive than the Olympic medal”

Olympic champion in rhythmic gymnastics Anastasia Tatareva spoke about how a conversation with coach Irina Viner helped her after a silver medal in the all-around at the 2020 Games in Tokyo.

– Many people told me that I can not sleep at night because of this silver medal. This is not true. We went out and did our best. We did not let anyone down, we went out and showed the program, everything that the coaches taught us. Wiener told us later: “Girls, you have a gold medal. Don’t even think about crying or getting upset.” Probably, the conversation after is much more expensive than the Olympic medal. Everyone saw everything, and there is no need to prove anything to anyone.

– How to go out and do your best with such thoughts?

– You have to go out brazenly, with sports anger. I wanted to go out and do everything to be seen. You have to prove it with work. If we went out, screwed up, there would be other emotions. We must stubbornly prove it, because spineless athletes have no place at the Olympics. Specifically, I had sports anger, and the girls were the same.

– What were the emotions from those events with fans that were in Moscow after the Olympics?

“It helps tremendously. At the moment when you see that the whole country, the fans support you, you stop blaming yourself. These meetings at the airport, posters, even tears well up from these emotions. This is the most important thing – the return of coaches and fans, – Sport24 quotes Tatareva.

“We are ready to consider any options, but definitely no more than 2+2” – RBU President Maigurov on the admission of Russian biathletes to the Olympic Games

President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Viktor Maigurov said that the maximum quota for Russian athletes if admitted to the Olympics will be the participation of two men and two women.

The Olympic meeting was held in Moscow on Wednesday. The Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Russian Olympic Committee Mikhail Degtyarev said that the Russian side will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on December 10 due to the removal of biathletes from international competitions. Maigurov later said that the Russians have a chance to qualify for the 2026 Olympic Games in Italy.

— Do you assume that if admitted, no more than one woman and one man will be admitted?

— We are ready to consider any options. We don’t count the quantity in any case. No more than 2+2 for sure,” Maigurov told a Match TV correspondent.

Russian biathletes were suspended from international competitions in 2022.

The 2026 Winter Olympic Games will be held from February 6 to 22 in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.
