The running back position at Fantasy NFL it’s a year-long saga, full of ups and downs, injuries and comebacks. Heading into week three, there is a lot of uncertainty in the position picture. However, we are starting to get some statistics, trends, matchup analysis and advanced data to help us plan for the future.

Injuries remain a huge variable for the RB position. His knee injury Elijah Mitchell in Week 1 he paved the way for veteran backups Jeff Wilson Jr. who recorded his 103 yards rushing agitation in the 49ers win over Seattle. JWJ (@Broncos in Week 3) will keep the flexibility this week, even against a stout Broncos defense and with Jimmy G under center. Sophomore QB Trey Lance’s leg injury means the rushing yards — along with the short sacks — will once again come from the RBs. So owners would also be wise to keep an eye on Tyrion Davis-Price.

NFL Fantasy players have been anxiously watching the status of studs JK Dobbins (knee), Alvin Kamara (rib) and D’Andre Swift (ankle). Dobbins and Kamara sat out Week 2, making way for veterans Mark Ingram II (@Panthers) and Kenyan Drake (@Patriots), respectively., while Swift played and recorded 89 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown. Swift ( @Vikings ) looks to be MVP early in the season, though Jamaal Williams continues to carry and carry the bulk of the work in Detroit’s red zone. Williams plays as a flex this week, but Ingram and Drake lose all value if the starters return. Drake probably has no value even if Dobbins is outwhile Dobbins would serve as a middle if he returns.

A few running backs entered the flop discussion in Week 1, most notably the Rams’ Cam Akers (@Cardinals), Rhamondre Stevenson (vs. Ravens), Breece Hall (vs. Bengals) and Dameon Pierce (@Bears). Akers appeared in Week 2 against Atlanta, leading the team in carries (15). He didn’t do much (just 44 yards), but he’s still encouraging. Stevenson had 51 total yards and looks poised to get more use with Pats RB1 Damien Harris out with a knee injury. Hall had 61 yards and a TD, putting more pressure on Jets RB1 Michael Carter (7-23 rushing, 5-27 receiving). Pierce caught every Texans running back (15), proving that Lovie Smith wasn’t bragging about giving the Texans more chances. rookie. Consider Stevenson one of the bigger bets this week, especially in PPR leagues. Pats coach Bill Belichick has talked about using the big back in the passing game, so the sky could be the limit now. Pierce loses value in PPR, but can still work as a flex. Akers and Hall (and Carter) are also elastic, though Akers still trails Darrell Henderson in our rankings.

Speaking of increased usage, Clyde Edwards Hellaire The Chiefs (@Colts) have made the most of their opportunities — on the ground and through the air — in the first two weeks. The third-year back had 74 rushing yards and 44 receiving yards in a shutout win over the division rival Chargers a week after tallying 74 yards and two receiving TDs against the Cardinals. CEH, Tony Pollard of the Cowboys (@Giants) and James Robinson of the Jaguars (@Chargers) also saw their values far exceed their averages. Pollard is still a risk, playing second base to Ezekiel Elliott ( @Giants ), but CEH and Robinson are practically indispensable right now.

Of course, hindsight allows us to separate the daydreams from the rough plan from the disappointments. The second year behind the Jaguars, Travis Etiennehas recorded fewer than nine PPR points in each of Jacksonville’s first two games. chase Edmonds, of the Dolphins (vs. Bills), has rushed 17 times for 58 yards, but 28 of those yards came on a late-game carry Sunday in Miami’s 42-38 win over Baltimore. Most concerning for both: Etienne had just three receptions for 33 yards in Week 2. Edmonds? He had an eight-yard reception. Both are contenders in PPR championships against strong front-7s this week. Raheem Mostert seems to have picked up the slack in Miami and has more value this week, though he’s just a rubber against a tough Bills defense.

Another injury to watch out for is James Conner (ankle), which left early last week. Darrell Williams (against the Rams) handled most of the snaps after Conner left, but Eno Benjamin also chipped in. This could be a “no-show” situation in Week 3 if Conner is out, and even if he plays, it seems like a relatively risky flexibility.

The RB landscape, especially in PPR formats, will continue to evolve as the season progresses. As always, we’ll be constantly taking notes, monitoring the status of all 32 teams and making the necessary adjustments to better prepare you for Week 3 of the NFL.
