Skier Ustyugov called the suspension from international starts a plus for himself

The 2022 Olympic relay champion, two-time world champion Russian skier Sergei Ustyugov spoke about his suspension from international competitions.

– To be honest, it’s even a plus for me if we run only in Russia. As Saveliy Korostelev said in a recent interview, we will constantly run with the leaders, with the best skiers in the country. Of course, there is nothing good about the fact that Russian skiers will miss the international season. But I speak from my bell tower. I don’t need to be in top shape by the start of the season and prove my right to participate in the World Cup. I can choose the races where I will start, and no one will take my place, – quotes the words of Ustyugov “Championship”.

The International Ski Federation (FIS) in March followed the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee and suspended the Russians from participating in competitions due to the situation in Ukraine until the end of the season. In July, the ban was extended. The head of the Russian Ski Racing Federation, Elena Vyalbe, said that the FIS should make a decision on the admission of Russian athletes in early October.
