BEIJING, China – Madeline Schizas helped Canada to the finals of the figure skating team competition at the Beijing Olympics, she also made sure to end the competition on a high note.
With a performance of 132.04 points in his free program, Schizas confirmed a fourth place finish for Canada at the end of the competition. She managed the third best score of her wave which was dominated by Kamila Valieva of the Russian Olympic Committee who won the competition.
With a total of 53 points, Canada is 10 points behind Japan and the third step of the podium. The United States finished with the silver medal with 65 points. The Chinese finish in fifth place.
For the dance component, Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier recorded the third best score with a score of 124.39 to add eight points to the team.
Vanessa James and Eric Radford finished fourth in the pairs event. James suffered a nasty crash in training earlier today.
The Ontario pair collected 130.07 on the song ‘Falling’ by Harry Styles and finished fourth among the five pairs of finalist nations.
Canada won silver in Sochi 2014 in the first edition of the event at the Games. The Canadian team then won gold in Pyeongchang four years ago.
