BEIJING, China — The medal ceremony for the figure skating team competition at the Beijing Olympics has been postponed amid legal troubles that could change the podium, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said.
The medal ceremony scheduled for Tuesday had on the program the crowning of the COR team. The Americans and Japanese were to receive and receive their silver and bronze medals respectively.
An IOC representative, Mark Adams, mentioned that there was a “legal consultation” underway. Details of the investigation were not released.
If an athlete from one of the teams were disqualified, an appeal would surely follow to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Canada finished fourth in the event and would see themselves on the podium.
