This is the debut of Quebecer Charles Hamelin at the Beijing Olympics.
The veteran of the Canadian short track speed skating team will be in action around 6 a.m. Wednesday morning for the 1500m event. He will start in the fourth wave of the quarter-finals.
Aged 37, Hamelin is participating in his fifth Olympic Games. His record is well known with five medals, three of which are gold. He had also climbed to the top step of the podium in the 1500m in Sochi in 2014. He had to settle for a 13and position over the same distance in PyeongChang four years later.
Besides Hamelin, Canadians Pascal Dion and Steven Dubois will also be in this competition. They will skate in the first and third wave respectively.
