BEIJING, China — Sweden’s Anna Hasselborg defeated Canada’s Jennifer Jones 7-6 on Saturday at the Beijing Olympics women’s curling tournament.

Hasselborg landed a tricky shot that gave her three points in the fifth end, earning a lead that she held until the end of the game.

Jones came close with a deuce in the eighth end, forcing Hasselborg to make a field goal to take a 7-5 lead after nine ends.

The Canadians had a chance to win in the 10th and final end, but only picked up a single point on a ricochet attempt.

Sweden improved to 2-1 in the round robin while Canada slipped to 1-2.

Canada’s men’s team, led by Brad Gushue, is scheduled to face Sweden later on Saturday.
