“I will be optimistic about the future.” Gamova hopes that Russian volleyball players will have the opportunity to qualify for the Games

Two-time world champion and two-time Olympic silver medalist in volleyball Yekaterina Gamova, despite the fact that the Russian women’s and men’s teams were not allowed to qualify for the 2024 Olympics, expressed the hope that the Russians would still have the opportunity to qualify for the Games.

Earlier it became known that the men’s and women’s teams of Russia will not play in the qualifying tournament for the 2024 Olympics due to suspension from international competitions. Such information appeared on the website of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

– Somewhere implicitly, we all expected this, given the fact that this year we did not take part in the World Cup. So it was expected. But I will look to the future with hope and optimism, because the Olympic Games will not be in a month or six months – they will be in 2024. I hope that something will change during this time, and our team will have the opportunity to qualify for the Olympics,” Gamova told Gazeta.Ru.

In February, the IOC recommended that Russians and Belarusians not be allowed to compete because of the situation in Ukraine. The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) followed the recommendations of the IOC in March.

The Paris Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
