“Bach is engaged in populism, his statements are empty” – Tatyana Tarasova

The words of the head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach about the participation of athletes from around the world in the Olympics should not be taken seriously, they are populist, said Tatyana Tarasova, Honored Trainer of the USSR.

Earlier, the President of the IOC addressed the leaders of the G20 in Bali with a speech, noting the need for participation in the Games of all countries, especially those in conflict.

— What Bach does is called populism. Who believes him at all? I don’t want to comment on his statements in any way, because they are empty, Tarasova told Sport24.

In February, the IOC Executive Board recommended that international federations prevent Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions due to the events in Ukraine. Many federations followed these recommendations.

The Russian Biathlon Union filed a lawsuit with CAS regarding the non-admission of Russian athletes to competitions under the auspices of the IBU

The Russian Biathlon Union (SBR) filed a lawsuit with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding the inadmissibility of Russian athletes to competitions under the auspices of the International Biathlon Union (IBU), Sergei Averyanov, head of the SBR press service, told Match TV.

On Wednesday, the Russian Minister of Sports and Chairman of the Russian Olympic Committee, Mikhail Degtyarev, said that the Russian side would appeal to CAS on December 10 due to the removal of biathletes from international competitions. RBU President Viktor Maigurov said that the organization will ask CAS to consider the issue under an accelerated procedure.

— The lawsuit was filed today. A Swiss law firm is looking into this issue,” Averyanov told Match TV.

Russian biathletes have been suspended from international competitions since 2022.
