Three-time Olympic champion in cross-country skiing Alexander Bolshunov told how he received a bear skin as a gift from a fan at the first stage of the Russian Cup in the Top of Tyoi.
At the first stage last weekend, Bolshunov took sixth place in the sprint final and fourth place in the individual race.
– I finished after the race, there were a lot of fans around. When I packed my things and left, they surrounded me, took pictures, someone took autographs … And one says that he likes me, has been watching (races) for a long time and he has a gift for me – a bear skin. I told him: “Yes, what a bear’s skin can be! What are you telling me stories? I have to go for a break.” He takes my hand and says: “Let’s go, I’ll give you a bear skin.” Well, I agreed. The Olympic silver medalist covered the 12.5 km distance in 33 minutes 50 seconds, without making a single mistake.

The men’s 12.5 km pursuit race will be held as part of the third stage of the Alfa-Bank Commonwealth Biathlon Cup in Tchaikovsky (Perm Territory) on Saturday, December 20.

60 athletes will compete at the start of the pursuit.
