Two Canadians, Caissie Sharpe and Rachel Karker, reach the podium in the freestyle skiing halfpipe event at the Beijing Olympics.
Sharpe got the silver medal while Karker got the bronze.
Sharpe scored 90.75 while Karker scored 87.75.
This is the first time that Canada has sent two athletes to the same podium in this category at the Olympic Games.
The event was won by China’s Eileen Ailing Gu, who won a third medal in these games. She earned a score of 95.25.
Born in California to an American father and a Chinese mother, the 18-year-old skier, the object of all the attention in the host country, flew over her favorite discipline as expected with a best run of 95.25 points, far ahead of all its rivals.
Another Canadian, Amy Fraser, fell on her third run and finished 8th. His best score was 75.25.
