Slovakia beat Sweden 4-0 in the small final to earn their Olympic medal in hockey history, a bronze, at the Beijing Olympics

Juraj Slafkovsky opened the scoring in the second period on an assist from Peter Ceresnak, while Samuel Takac doubled the lead a few minutes later on the power play.

Sweden had golden chances in the third period but Slovakia hung on. Slafkovsky, just 17, got his second goal of the game from an empty net with 1:34 remaining, then Pavol Regenda added another.

Slafkovsky finished with seven goals in seven games.

The Slovaks surprised this year by eliminating the United States in the quarters, before losing 2-0 to the Finns in the semi-finals.

They lost 4-1 to Sweden in the round robin earlier in the Olympics.

Gold will be contested between Finland and the Russian Olympic Committee on Saturday evening.

Finland is the only country to remain undefeated since the start of the Olympic tournament.
