Norwegian skier Daniel Strand, who tried to set a world record – to travel the maximum distance in a day, was hospitalized, according to NRK.

Strand, 40, has set himself the goal of walking 475 kilometers, roughly the distance between Oslo and Trondheim. According to the athlete, the first 12 hours of the marathon went well, but after 16 hours it became much harder. After 21.5 hours, he was forced to withdraw from the race.

– If you were in the basement, then it was the basement that is under it. In the end, I had to give up. I couldn’t walk. I still had two and a half hours, but there was no chance of success. I had to seek medical help. It may not be entirely unexpected, but at the same time, I did not think that I could lose so much weight that I would have to be hospitalized, he said.

Strand ended up on a drip, but quickly recovered after spending the night in the hospital.

I have had many long ski trips. I like to think that I have become stronger. I have to put up with the fact that I failed to set a world record, ”said the athlete.

The world record belongs to Finn Hans Mäenpää, who covered 472 km in 24 hours in 2018.
