Yana Yegoryan, two-time Olympic champion of the 2016 Games in Rio in fencing, told Match TV that she was not at all close to ending her career.
At the end of February, the IOC issued a recommendation according to which the federations should remove Russian and Belarusian athletes from participation in all international competitions. In this regard, there is a danger that athletes will not be able to qualify for the 2024 Olympics, which will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
– I’m not 16 years old, so I could go to another five or six Olympics. But that doesn’t mean I’m close to ending my career. There is no question of any withdrawal,” said the saber fencer.
She also stressed that she plans to perform at a tournament in Novogorsk in the near future and will wait for admission to international competitions.
“Let’s hope that we can still get to the Olympic Games in Paris,” added Yana Yegoryan.
