BEIJING, China — Harri Sateri shot 28 perfect as Finland shut out Slovakia 2-0 Friday at the Beijing Olympics men’s hockey tournament.
Sateri, a fourth-round pick of the San Jose Sharks in 2008, shut the door on the Slovaks after his team took a first-period lead.
Sakari Manninen and Harri Pesonen, in an empty net, shone the red light for Finland, who finished top of Group C.
Finland is in the final of the men’s Olympic hockey tournament for the first time since 2006. They have never won the gold medal.
Patrik Rybar gave up once on 26 shots in front of Slovakia, who had caused the upset by eliminating the United States in the quarter-finals.
Manninen opened the scoring with just over four minutes remaining in the first period. He jumped on a return shot to slip the puck under Rybar’s pad.
Finland protected their lead in the third period and Pesonen sealed the game by doubling their lead into an empty net.
In the other semi-final, which will take place later on Friday, Sweden will face the ROC athletes.
