Russian President Vladimir Putin said that every effort would be made to protect the rights of Russian athletes, noting that, overcoming difficulties, athletes only become stronger.
The ceremony honoring the Olympians took place in the Kremlin on April 26.
— Great traditions will be continued and multiplied. We will do our best to protect the rights of our athletes. We will have competitions. For Russia, there are no unfriendly countries in sports. We are glad to those who stand for sports without restrictions and discrimination.
In conclusion, I would like to say what was said by the last Paralympian. His main idea is that they create difficulties for us, and when we go through them, we become stronger. We have everything for this. We have competitive advantages related to the size of our country, its climate, the development of technology and the growing attention of the state to sports, athletes and physical education.
By your example, you inspire millions of people and force officials to respond appropriately to the needs that arise in connection with your results. And achieve new successes in sports. I would like to once again congratulate you on the results at the Olympics and Paralympics, thank you and wish you success,” Putin said.
At the Beijing Olympics, Russian athletes won 6 gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze medals.
