Bach explained why the IOC urged federations not to allow Russian athletes to compete

The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, explained why the Executive Committee recommended that the federations remove Russian athletes from the competition.
– There are a lot of crises. The answer is that this is a blatant violation of the Olympic Truce and that these are protective measures that we should have taken because the global response to other conflicts has not been the same as Russia’s actions in Ukraine. We must pay attention to maintaining the integrity of our Olympic values and competition.
Our Olympic values are about peaceful competition between athletes from all NOCs, this is an example of overcoming and unacceptability of any discrimination. The message of peace is only of real value if it comes from people who may not be in the world or may have disagreements.
At the end of February, the IOC executive committee called on the federations to prevent Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions because of the situation in Ukraine. Many federations followed the recommendations and suspended athletes from the two countries.

French biathlete Lou Jeanmonnot won the pursuit race at the third stage of the World Cup in Annecy (France).
The athlete, who started from the second position, covered the 10 km distance in 27 minutes 58.8 seconds, making one mistake at the shooting range.
The silver medal was won by the representative of Finland, Suvi Minkkinen (lag – 30.2 seconds, 0 misses), who climbed to the podium from sixth place at the start. Italian Dorothea Wierer repeated the result of the sprint and finished third (+32.7; 1 miss).
The winner of the sprint race, Hanna Oeberg, made four shooting errors and finished the pursuit seventh (+47.2).
Later on Saturday, the men’s pursuit race will take place at the Annecy World Cup.

Inna Tereshchenko finished second (lag – 54.3 seconds; 3 misses), the top three was closed by Irina Kazakevich (+1.00.8; 3 misses).

Biathlete Kristina Reztsova said on Match TV that skier Alexander Bolshunov does not greet her, despite the fact that they competed together at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.
