Sports news presents all the details about it and when it will be back in full operation.
What injury did Justin Herbert suffer?
The Chargers initially listed Justin Herbert as questionable to return for the game against the Broncos after suffering a finger injury. However, he was taken off shortly after half-time due to the problem. After the 24-7 loss, coach Brandon Staley announced that Herbert suffered a fractured right index finger.
Herbert underwent an MRI and other tests on Monday, Dec. 11, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. It was revealed that the player broke his finger and needed surgery to fix it. The next day the intervention took place and the team placed him on IR, which will end his season. That means it will be the presentation of the Easton Stick for the Chargers.
Herbert went to the side immediately after the injury and went straight to the dressing room. There were just over two minutes left in the first half at the time of Herbert’s injury and the Broncos got the ball on a turnover.

The Chargers managed two more drives in the half while Herbert received medical attention. Quarterback Stick led the offense and completed just 1 of 3 passes for 3 yards before ending the first half with his second drive. With Herbert out, the Chargers had to rely on Stick to carry them in the second half of their Week 14 game. The team didn’t have another quarterback available on its 53-man roster, so Brandon Staley and company should to turn to a backup quarterback if Stick gets hurt.
For the remainder of the season, the Chargers will activate Max Duggan to the 53-man roster. They selected the TCU product in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, but he did not debut.
This is not the first finger injury Herbert has suffered this season. He spent several weeks with a broken finger on his non-flying hand.
