“We don’t know what quota they left us, but we assume that at the Olympics it’s 1+1” – Vyalbe
President of the Russian Cross-Country Skiing Federation (FLGR) Elena Vyalbe suggested on Match TV that Russia will receive a 1+1 quota (one man and one woman) for the 2026 Olympics.
On Tuesday, the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Russian Olympic Committee Mikhail Degtyarev said that Russia won a claim in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) and now the international federation is obliged to allow Russian athletes to compete. FIS accepted the CAS decision and published the eligibility criteria. Member of the Presidium of the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR) Sergei Kryanin previously told Match TV that the federation had already sent the lists to the FIS to obtain neutral status.
The third stage of the World Cup will be held in Davos from December 12 to 14. This is the final start where Russians can qualify for the Olympics.
— In fact, we still have the same information as our entire country. Only those athletes who are not members of the security forces have the opportunity to go to the World Cup or the Olympic Games. We don’t have many of those on our team. Each athlete on the national team has the right to submit an application. We sent lists long before we went to CAS. Everyone has the right to submit an application and it will be considered, and perhaps someone will be invited. Of course, there are those that have an almost 100% guarantee. Savely Korostelev, Sergey Volkov, Daria Nepryaeva. Our FIS points are all frozen, they are active. By and large, Saveliy Korostelev does not need to be selected. His FIS points allow him to come.
We don’t know what quota they left us. Now we assume it will be 1+1. One man and one woman. I’m only talking about the Olympic Games. FIS does not answer any questions for us; we are nothing to them at the moment. They communicate directly with the athletes,” Vyalbe said on the “Ski Country” program on Match TV.
The Winter Olympic Games will be held from February 6 to 22, 2026 in Italy.
Ski racing competitions are available live on the Match TV and Match! Arena”, as well as on the websites matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru.
