The decision of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) to exclude Russian skiers from qualifying for the 2026 Olympics is disappointing, said Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov.

Russian skiers have not competed in international competitions since 2022. On Tuesday, the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR) announced that the FIS council had extended the suspension of the Russians. The FIS later confirmed that the council had voted against the participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus in the qualifying competitions for the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in a neutral status.

“We view this with disappointment.” As you know, the decision is made by the individual federation on the recommendation of the IOC. And we, of course, are disappointed that this single federation made such a decision.

We need to continue painstaking, patient work with the federation to defend the interests of our athletes,” RIA Novosti quotes Peskov as saying.

The 2026 Winter Olympics will take place from 6 to 22 February in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.
