Biathlete Latypov talks about racing in Khanty-Mansiysk: “You shouldn’t run in such cold weather, but you have to. Roughly speaking, we are forced”
Russian biathlete Eduard Latypov, speaking on Match TV, criticized the decision to hold the men’s mass start at the Alfa-Bank Commonwealth Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk.
The air temperature in Khanty-Mansiysk is minus 22–24 degrees.
“You shouldn’t run in such frost, but you have to.” There is an opportunity to refuse, but we are fighting for ratings, and, roughly speaking, we are being forced to flee. I think this is wrong, but you have to adapt and dress warmer.
It’s important to get to the starting line here, and then we’ll see. Most likely there will be more training work. Experienced athletes are unlikely to jump out of their pants to show something. People are probably afraid of losing points. Because one missed race means you don’t actually fight for the overall standings,” Latypov told Match TV.
Watch the live broadcast of the mass start at this moment on the Match TV channel, as well as on the websites matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru.
