“The Ministry of Sports and the ROC, in cooperation with the ski federations, will file an appeal against the FIS decision” – Degtyarev

The Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation and the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) will promptly file an appeal against the decision of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) to extend the suspension of Russian athletes, Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports and head of the ROC, told Match TV.

Previously, the FIS Council voted against the participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus in qualifying competitions for the 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in a neutral status.

“We consider such actions absolutely unacceptable and have nothing to do with the principles and values contained in the Olympic Charter.

The Ministry of Sports and the Russian Olympic Committee, in cooperation with our ski federations, will prepare appeals against this decision of the FIS Council.

Russia’s position has been strengthened by a recent precedent – a court decision on bobsleigh, which recognized the discriminatory nature of suspensions. The appeal will be filed as soon as possible,” the Match TV correspondent reports Degtyarev’s words.

The 2026 Winter Olympics will take place from 6 to 22 February in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo
