“We jumped to conclusions.” The SBR named the real reasons for postponing the men’s individual race at the Russian Cup stage in Tyumen

Executive Director of the Russian Biathlon Union (SBR) Alexander Pak said on Match TV that the men’s individual race at the second stage of the Alfa-Bank Russian Biathlon Cup in Tyumen was not postponed due to a power failure.

The race will take place on December 12, starting at 10:00 Moscow time. The competition was originally scheduled for Thursday, December 11th. Earlier, the press service of the SBR reported that the race was postponed due to an accident in the electrical network supplying the lighting of the Pearl of Siberia complex.

— Before all competitions we conduct TV tests. And we determined that the lighting on the track, unfortunately, is not enough for a high-quality TV broadcast. Therefore, we decided to postpone the start date. So that athletes can run in comfortable conditions, so that TV viewers can see a high-quality picture.

– Are we talking about an accident? Technical solution?

– Yes, at first we rushed to the conclusion. There is no accident,” Pak said on Match TV.

Metelya – about the mass start: “How can you be upset with third place if so many people came to support us”

Biathlete Victoria Metelya, on Match TV, noted the phenomenal support from fans during the 12 km mass start at the second stage of the Alfa-Bank Russian Cup in Tyumen.

The mass start took place on Sunday. Metelya took third place, 21.7 seconds behind the winner Kristina Reztsova and making one penalty. Second was Anastasia Grishina (+13 seconds, 0 misses).

— You threw a bouquet of flowers to the audience, isn’t it a pity?

– Of course not. I would give everything to the audience, look how many people there are. How can you be upset with third place if so many people came to support us? I didn’t hear the clatter of poles or the sound of skis, because there was such a shout here, such support. “It’s just phenomenal,” said the biathlete.

Later on Sunday, the men’s mass start will take place in Tyumen. Watch the live broadcast of the race from 11:50 on the Match TV channel, and the broadcast will also be available on the websites matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru.

The RBU will resume Tyumen’s bid to host the World Championship, Maigurov said

The Russian Biathlon Union will resume Tyumen’s bid to host the World Championships, the head of the RBU, Viktor Maigurov, said on Match TV.

The last time the World Championship was held in Russia was in 2011, the tournament was hosted by Khanty-Mansiysk.

“We will renew Tyumen’s bid to host the World Cup,” Maigurov said on Match TV.

Russian biathletes have been suspended from international competitions since 2022 due to the conflict in Ukraine. On Wednesday it became known that the RBU filed a lawsuit with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to challenge the exclusion of athletes from Russia from competing under the auspices of the IBU.

At the moment, the venues for the World Championships are distributed until 2029 inclusive.
