The International Biathlon Union said it was shocked by Bakken’s death.

The International Biathlon Union (IBU) expressed condolences on social networks over the death of Norwegian Sievert Bakken.
On Tuesday, the Norwegian Biathlon Association said Bakken was found dead in a hotel room in Italy. The cause of death of the 27-year-old athlete is unknown.
“We are shocked by the news of the sudden death of Sievert Bakken. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, teammates and everyone who was close to him at this difficult time. Rest in peace, Siewert,” the statement said.
Bakken is a two-time Youth Olympic Games winner. The biathlete became the European champion three times, as well as the winner of the World Cup.
