Dynamo Moscow goalkeeper Igor Leshchuk talked about gymnastics that his daughters do in an interview with Sport24 correspondent Alexander Muyzhnek.
– You sent your girls to the Wiener Rhythmic Gymnastics Center. Do you want a sports career for them?
His wife wants it. I do not want them to sit idle, but only to do sports. At least until the age of 15. And don’t let anything get in the way of your education. But when there is no school, sports are needed in every way. And the burden and the child do not bother with nonsense. Sport is a discipline. I remember my peers: who smoked, who drank after school. And I went to practice. Where am I, where are they?
At the same time, when they gave me football, my mother was against it. But my father was distraught – and it was good that I did. I am one of the thousands of people who entered the first team in Dinamo. I wonder: how many miss – and at the same time remain without knowledge of the school, institute?
And speaking of children. Gymnastics is flexibility, it is useful. But even if you win the Olympics in the future, you will not provide yourself financially. Then you turn 20, everyone will forget about you, they will look for new ones. I have a gymnast friend, he coaches. Is this why they hunched all their youth, from morning to night, until they were betrothed and killed? Was there a medal on the shelf to become a coach later? Okay, a medal is good, especially an Olympic medal – but two or three girls in a million will get them.
My daughter now had a training camp, girls from Los Angeles came to them – especially to Wiener. And they come from all cities of Russia. Parents brag about this bright future.
