Renat Laishev, General Director of the Sambo-70 Sports and Training Center, reacted to the statements of Alexander Tikhonov, a four-time Olympic champion in biathlon, about his figure skating trainer Eteri Tutberidze.
Tikhonov accused Tutberidze of rude behavior and criticized him for a trip to the United States, where his daughter was studying.
“To be honest, I was very surprised by Tikhonov’s statement. I know her well, so I did not expect her to say that about Eteri Georgievna. Unfair criticism in my opinion. In general, there is no need to escalate an already very tense situation today, on the contrary, I think everyone should unite and be friends.
Tutberidze is a reasonable person and a great manager. So I don’t think it’s possible for him to want to destroy someone or something like that. I never noticed his rude behavior, he is a great professional who has made tremendous contributions to figure skating. She did a lot for the people and the country, took interest in women’s figure skating to a new level, won three Olympics in a row. “I’m sure you know what you’re doing and why,” Laishev told Sport24 reporter Arman Navasardyan.
