After Korostelev and Nepryaeva received neutral statuses, all other skiers began to receive waivers from FIS, Sorina said
Olympic champion Tatyana Sorina said that after Savely Korostelev and Daria Nepryaeva were assigned neutral status, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) began to refuse all other athletes.
On Saturday, skier Sergei Volkov said on Match TV that he had appealed to CAS the FIS decision to deny him neutral status. In addition, Alina Pekletsova and Ivan Gorbunov reported that they were also denied neutral status.
“I still don’t understand what principles FIS was guided by when considering our applications. There were no explanations. Saveliy, Dasha and I were the first to send applications; after us, Sergei Ardashev did it, but he, like me, received a refusal. Then everyone started getting refusals,” Sorina told RT.
Sorina also spoke about the presence of her husband Yegor Sorin at the World Cup.
“He planned this as soon as it became known that the guys [Коростелеву и Непряевой] status approval has arrived. We just didn’t expect the departure to take so long. They made plans for the New Year, but Yegor could not return, she said.
In December, Korostelev and Nepryaeva received neutral status from the FIS to participate in the competition. They are the only Russian skiers who have access to international tournaments.
