Head of the Sambo-70 Sports and Education Center Renat Laishev commented on the decision to develop double skating and ice dancing at the academy of two-time Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko.
“As they say, the flag is in his hand. But Plushenko is unlikely to repeat Tutberidze’s success in pair skating. To do this you need to be a coach from God and a super professional like Eteri Georgievna. Plushenko is a great athlete, but he didn’t show himself as a coach at all. Therefore, it is difficult to expect a miracle from him.
Of course, in terms of coaching they cannot be compared to Tutberidze, this is obvious to everyone. He is a good person, an outstanding figure skater, we are all grateful to him for his achievements, credit should be given to him for that. But a coach is a little different. Tutberidze’s success not only in singles, but also in doubles proved his coaching genius, ”Layshev said in an interview with Sport24 correspondent Arman Navasardyan.
