Lawyers told how ROC can leave the European committees

Sports lawyers Anna Antseliovich and Sergey Alekseev assessed the chances of the Russian Olympic Committee withdrawing from the European Olympic Committees (EOC).

– Theoretically, any National Olympic Committee is a member of the European Committee voluntarily upon application. This issue is resolved at the highest governing body, at the congress. In the same way, any National Olympic Committee can leave the European one by decision of the same body that hosted it, that is, the Congress. This path is provided in accordance with the charter of the European Olympic Committee, – Alekseev is quoted by RBC Sport.

– Membership in any organization is voluntary, you can both join and leave at any time. It is enough for the member to send an official notification of the desire to terminate the membership. Entry requires the approval of the governing body, and exit usually does not require such approval, Anceliovich noted.

Earlier, the head of the ROC called the uncertainty with the selection for the 2024 Olympics and restrictions by the International Olympic Committee the main problems of the domestic Olympic movement.

At the end of February, the IOC issued an appeal to international sports federations and recommended that they not allow Russian athletes to participate in any competitions. After that, various international sports organizations began to remove the Russians. The suspension period is still open.
