Sanctions against our country jeopardized the holding of the 2024 Games. Can you forget about the grand sports festival?

The Olympic Games in France were to be one of the most spectacular in history. It was planned that at the opening ceremony, athletes and delegations would sail in open boats along the Seine, and hundreds of thousands of spectators would watch them from the shore. However, Russia ruined everything again.

The games in Paris are now on the verge of collapse, and they want to attribute all the problems to our country.

Organizers are preparing for the worst-case scenario

France is sounding the alarm. Only two years remain before the start of the Olympic Games, and the number of problems with their organization is growing every day. According to the British edition of The Guardian, the management of the Games is strongly advised to reduce ambitions and be prepared for the worst scenarios. Of course, they don’t write about this openly, but it is quite obvious that we are talking about the cancellation or postponement of the Games.

The Guardian says that the organizers are literally “drenched in cold sweat.” They don’t know how to deal with security issues, finances, building facilities, and paying employees. But French President Emmanuel Macron promised everyone a national triumph in 2024. But instead of starting to solve the difficulties, the West is again ready to blame Russia for everything.

The situation in Ukraine provoked a huge number of sanctions against our country, which, as we know, hurt the Europeans themselves. In particular, the leadership of the 2024 Games has acknowledged problems with interruptions in the supply of materials for the Olympic Village. Even if everything is decided positively, it will greatly increase the initial budget. And it is already inflated to the maximum due to unprecedented inflation throughout Europe. Which, by the way, also happened due to anti-Russian sanctions.

There is no labor force in the country

There was even talk that the handball tournament could be moved from Paris to Lille so as not to build a new arena. Lille has the necessary infrastructure, but the city is located more than 200 kilometers from the capital of France. The head of the IOC, Thomas Bach, has already expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that athletes and spectators will have to travel huge distances, which will create discomfort and discredit the IOC itself.

All is not thank God and with the hiring of staff. According to French media, about 22,000 people are needed to hold the Games, of which 1,500 will be bus drivers. The former leader of the community of workers in France, Bernard Thiebaud, said that the country simply does not have so much free labor. The vice-president of one of the regions of Paris, Patrick Baram, was even less optimistic.

We live in a fog. It is obvious that the preparation has already failed. We are first told that this building is too polluted, then that competitions are being moved from one venue to another, and then that the budget has reached the ceiling. It already looks like a joke, — quotes the words of Baram The Guardian.

Olympics predict chaos

One problem turns into another. The lack of personnel also jeopardizes the issue of security. The French expect to see nine million fans during the Olympics, 25,000 journalists and 14,000 athletes from 206 countries. It is clear that a huge number of people should protect them. Especially at the opening ceremony, where half a million people will gather in the center of Paris in a limited space.

The French media even recall the terrorist attacks in Paris in 2015, when several attacks were carried out – explosions after the Stade de France stadium, the shooting of restaurant visitors in the capital, as well as the massacre in the Bataclan concert hall, where about 100 people were captured in hostages. In Paris, they are very afraid that a similar nightmare may repeat itself during the Games. Edition Le Monde quotes the words of a former police officer of the country, who called the upcoming Olympics “a dangerous event with unpredictable consequences.”

Did not add confidence and the situation with the Champions League final, which took place in Paris this year. Then there was a real organizational disaster. Fans were kept in a crush behind the fence, hundreds of stowaways broke into the stands, and the city plunged into chaos. The start of the match was even forced to be delayed for half an hour – a unique case for events of this level.

It is categorically unclear how it will all end. It does not seem that the situation in the economy and politics will get much better. Macron’s rating is rapidly falling, in neighboring Italy and Great Britain the leaders of the country have already been removed, so the emotional background before the Olympics is unlikely to be positive. If the French also fail to organize the Games, it will be simply a shame to blame Russia for everything.
