Olympic champion in cross-country skiing Sergei Ustyugov said on Match TV that he would not engage in politics at the end of his professional career.
– When they tell me: “if you finish, you will go to the deputies,” I answer that I can’t there, I’m a truth-teller. Because I’m telling the truth,” Ustyugov said on the air of the Special Reporting program on Match TV.
The 30-year-old athlete also spoke about the difficulty of staying motivated while preparing for the Beijing Olympics.
– When I was preparing for the Olympic Games, there was a turning point with Petya Sedov. We went to prepare in Toblach, and the main group went to the Tour de Ski. I understood that I had three races at the Olympics, and I failed several times. Petya kicked me out to training. I say that I can’t look at the skis, my disgust was unreal.
There were thoughts of ending a career after the Olympics 80% to 20%. 20 said run, and 80 – why, for what? It seems that there are World Cup medals, an Olympic award, too, not a personal one, a relay race. Win the World Cup, I still don’t believe I can. I’m not young anymore, injuries are making themselves felt.
The wife said: “Run for a year, get high, having fun. We can handle it,” Ustyugov said.
Ustyugov is the owner of the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing as part of the men’s relay race, and the skier also has two victories at the World Championships.
