Commentator and host of Match TV Dmitry Guberniev believes that Russian biathletes will not have a chance to return to the international arena in the near future.
On Tuesday, the executive committee of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) recommended to the Congress of the organization to extend the suspension of the membership of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) and the Belarusian Biathlon Federation (BFB) until certain conditions are met. The Board is also seeking to ensure that athletes from these countries continue to be banned from participating in tournaments until further notice.
— The IBU will be the last international federation to bring our athletes back to the international arena! This must be clearly understood. Everything here is not bad, but very bad. And it will get worse too. At the moment, there is no chance for biathletes to return to the international arena. And in the short term it will not be, – Guberniev wrote in the Telegram channel.
The IBU suspended Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions under its auspices due to the situation in Ukraine.
