“Europe continues to buy Russian gas.” Skier Stepanova considers the removal of Russians from competitions hypocritical
Olympic champion in cross-country skiing Veronika Stepanova considers the decision of international federations regarding Russian athletes hypocritical, as European countries continue to use Russia’s resources.
– Dozens, if not hundreds of people from the West have already written to me – probably, these thoughts are especially popular there. If European countries continue to buy and consume Russian gas, oil, grain, fertilizers, metals, and so on, why is there a ban on entertainment involving Russian athletes? There is such a popular expression in English: hypocrisy much? (Isn’t there too much hypocrisy?), – quotes the words of Stepanova “Match TV”.
At the end of February, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that sports federations prevent Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in competitions due to the situation in Ukraine. Many international federations have followed this recommendation.
