The coach of the Russian women’s biathlon team Mikhail Shashilov responded to the athletes’ complaints about the intense heat in Sochi, noting that all the necessary precautions were taken at the PARI Commonwealth Cup stage.
On Thursday, at the stage of the Commonwealth Cup, sprint races in summer biathlon were held. Dinara Alimbekova from Belarus became the winner of the women’s sprint, Russian Anton Babikov took the first place among men. During the launch, the temperature reached 46 degrees Celsius. After the finish, many athletes spoke about difficult weather conditions.
– How safe is it for biathletes to perform in such heat?
“Well, what can you do, especially since precautions have been taken. They poured water, gave cold. Nothing wrong with that. Of course, it was possible to hold the race later, but television … By the way, they organized an awesome holiday. “Match TV”, a bow to you, “Gazprom” – a bow in general! Competitions are held at a good level. It’s a pity that there are few fans, but they supported well, ”Match TV quotes Shashilov as saying.
– And what is the maximum allowable temperature for the competition?
– There is no such thing as a plus. What will you do…
Did any of the girls complain?
– What do they have a right to? (Laughs). Everyone knew where they were going. They were told that everything was under control.
– Are you satisfied with how the athletes of your group performed?
– This is a training process, no conclusions should be drawn. Someone didn’t cope purely technically, someone started earlier, there were problems at zeroing – these are all working moments. Everything is super! Competitions are great!
On August 27, two pursuit races will be held at the stage in Sochi.
