“Championship and Course in Europe”
The coach of the Olympiacos handball team, as well as most of the team’s players, referred to the double goal of the “Red-Whites” during the media day.
The media day of the Olympiakos/Xinis group handball team took place on Friday (23 September) in the training hall of the Peace and Friendship Stadium.
The Greek champion spoke to the press about this year’s season and gave the motto for winning the league and cup! The official photo shoot of the “Red and Whites” for the 2022/23 season took place at the same time as the media day.
In detail, the statements of the coach and athlete of Thrylos:
Georg Karasavvidis:
“The goals for the new year are to win the championship again, but also the cup. We’ll see how it goes in Europe because the draw plays a big role there too, but our aim is to have a good course. We will.” I’m having a very interesting year that will help us train with more appetite. I’m not afraid of Europe being added to the goals because we have depth in the squad and have shown we have a lot of confidence in all the players we have.
It doesn’t matter who’s in and who’s out, that’s the good thing. Last year we were a purely defensive team, the next step is to speed up our game, to lead the ball, we will do that and people will see a nicer game. We also have players who help us where we had more… set pieces last year. Personally, I can say that I grew up with the team, the experience I gained was huge, the bond with the players is incredible. No matter what you’ve been through in your career, playing a title is like nothing else.
The big difference now is that we are no longer outsiders. Now we are all called to grow together in a different role. And surely we dream of something better. The team can do more. Last year we won more people and we saw that in the Supercup game. Little by little they are very much part of the team, they are involved, they know the sport now, they help us and will also help us in small games that we often underestimate. And this is where people need to push a player whose day isn’t at 100%. In the derby for sure people will help, it was 50% of our team and in Europe I hope we get to the point of saying the same.”
Petros Kandylas:
“We have a very long and difficult season ahead of us, fortunately we are also playing in Europe this year, we will have games that will strengthen us as a team. As always, our goals are the league and the cup. We started.” By winning the Supercup in a very nice competition that took place after 23 years. Winning it will help us a lot, you get the feeling that we were all together and celebrating and it will be a guide for the rest of the season for other trophies and why not a European one too!
When I won the championship it was one of the best moments of my life and I want it to happen again and we all work hard for that. The players who have joined this year have shown signs of being great players. Game after game we will all bond more and more, and the team will benefit from the quality they have. When this happens we will present a very beautiful sight. It takes time, especially if we’re talking about attack, for the automations to come out, understand each other, it’s more difficult than defense. With this year’s formation, the quality of the team has increased a lot and over time the team will play better and better handball.”
Robert Weber:
“It was easy for me to choose Olympiacos. The team makes me feel good. We’re having a great time in training, we’ve already won a title. I’m very happy to be playing for Olympiacos. We’re giving in training 100% and I think how are we going to manage to get the other three goals we have to get the trophies I’ve been named the Supercup Most Valuable Player the world expects a lot from me I want them goals and offer trophies.”
Byronas Papadopoulos:
“Every day we try to get better and better through training. A year with great expectations, championship title and cup victory and as high as possible in Europe. The premiere against AEK wasn’t exactly what we wanted, but it’s a very good push to work on our weaknesses, improve and present ourselves better in the future.
I think it’s good that now all the teams are playing against each other in a group, they’ve all improved, our job is to respect all the teams, but we and AEK are one level better than the others and we’ll fight in the group at the end for title. We play in a team where the demands are always high. We have strengthened ourselves with good players, but we have to keep the passion and homogeneity of last year.
We held the suitcase to step on it. You saw that in Chalkida every game was a fight for us! We would like to repeat our success this year. The new players know which team they’ve joined and what fans they’re playing in front of.”
Panagiotis Karabourniotis:
“We’re starting a different year than last year as Greek champions. We deserve it, we fought a lot, we weren’t satisfied, we want to celebrate titles for the team again. When you play at Olympiakos, you’re always under pressure and you have to prove in every game that you were fair and a worthy champion! This team is built on the equality, the trust we have in each other and the passion we show in every game. We must maintain that, along with the Defense and Concentration for 60 minutes of each game”.
Kostas Kotanidis:
“I want to wish you health and to achieve the best possible results. We are very happy to be back in the European competitions, it is an additional goal for us that holds us very high in the way we work. It will be.” bet on us to get the remaining three goals as we won the Super Cup. We will work hard to get the double and the European title.”.
Savo Slavulica:
“We will take it step by step to achieve our goals, we will give our best in every game, we won the Super Cup and we have to continue for the rest of our goals in the season. I’m sure we will succeed .” The match we gave now with AEK had nothing to do with the finals, a lot of time has passed and the teams have changed.
George Papavasilis:
“We planned to start with four titles and the year has started perfectly by winning the first one. We will try to work as hard as possible in training, we have more than doubles and the European title to win. Last year .” The MVP award has made me more determined and I will give 100% to see the team achieve their goals and achieve more than last year.”
Babis Dombris:
“What the team achieved last year was something very important. This year the team has been reinforced with players of known value who will help us a lot in our endeavours. We also have European commitments, which is a privilege Olympiacos wants in all Being stars in all competitions Our goal is to win every title We’re a defensive side, we showed that last year, we want to set our own pace in every game from start to finish and we’ll do that on top of that, and we expect that too new Year”.

Mylonas announced that he is ending his career at the age of 28
International left midfielder Christos Mylonas announced his decision to retire from action following another serious injury.
Christos Mylonas made the decision to end his sports career when he was just 28 years old.
For our international left winger, it was decided that the men’s national team matches in the EURO 2024 final, which will be played in Germany in January, would be the last of his career.
Unfortunately, he didn’t have time to realize his dream and take part in a major event with the “Blue and Whites” that he and his teammates had worked for years to make happen.
they come true.
His serious injury (complete anterior cruciate ligament rupture) in the game between ASE Doukas and Diomedes Argos for the handball premiership forced him to an even premature end to his short-lived, great and award-winning career.
Christos Mylonas has played in all minor national teams, while he made his men’s national team debut in June 2014 in the 2015 World Cup play-offs against North Macedonia. He played a total of 54 games and scored 152 goals and is on the list of all-time top scorers.
His speed, his leadership qualities in his first year, his intelligence as well as the quality of his character were elements that made him special and one of the leading Greek handball players of all time.
At the collective level, in his 11 seasons in the handball premiership, Christos Mylonas managed to score 650 goals in 218 games and win the treble (championship, cup, European Cup) and a championship in 2021
in 2020 with AEK, where he is the sixth all-time goalscorer with 477 goals, was named league MVP in 2021, was voted the best left winger in two seasons (2020-2001, 2021-2022), and scored 194 goals in European competitions.
He started his career at Anagennisi Byron (2004-2010), moved on to Doukas (2010-2013), returned to Anagennisi (2013-2015) to help them in the big division, moved to again (2015-2016). Diomedes (2016). -2017) at Doukas, followed by a 5-year stay (2017-2018) at AEK. Last season he played in the 2nd Bundesliga
with the Elbflorence Dresden jersey and this year he returned again to Doukas, who he helped to become a star at the handball premiere.
Christos Mylonas underwent surgery today together with his wife, beach handball world champion Apostolina Dimitriou, to heal his injury.
The entire association, the board, the employees and the press office wish him a speedy recovery and continued success in everything he wants to do in his life.
In particular, the President of the OHE Kostas Gandis stated: “The gap that Christos Mylonas will leave in Greek handball is not just a gap in competition, because he is a charismatic athlete, a star in the national team and in all the clubs he has played for.”
We will miss him above all for the values and ethos with which he led the sport over the years. A child with a diamond character – a role model who never caused problems and was always there for our national teams. It is unfair that Christos will not be with our national team at the EURO, our team’s first participation in a major competition in 19 years.
Unfortunately, there are also bad moments in sport. We are sure he still has a lot to offer the sport and the national team, but we fully respect his decision. As a representative of the entire board of the association and, in my opinion, as an expression of the entire sport, I would like to thank him for what he has offered and wish him all the best
Many successes throughout his life and family happiness with his wife and also our athlete Apostolina Dimitriou. OCHE will honor Christos Mylonas for his great contribution to sport in a special event.”
