A1 women’s handball: In the third qualifying game between Pylaia and PAOK, Nea Ionia made it to the final
Pylaia beat PAOK 24-23 to send the A1 women’s handball semi-final series into a third game. Nea Ionia reached the final while Anagennisi Artas finished fourth.
The third game will decide the second ticket to the A1 Women’s Final as Pylaia beat PAOK 24-23 to equal their winning streak 1-1.
The match was dramatic as Pylaia trailed 21:23 at 57:00. With goals from Kostopoulou and Kerlidis, Pylaia equalized in 23:23 after consecutive errors from PAOK at 59:00.
With the score 59-50, the referees penalized Gomes of PAOK with a red card and awarded a penalty in Pylaia’s favour, blaming the Brazilian spinner for shooting and not letting the ball down after the change of ball possession indicator showed for a pass had been. Katerina Koukmisi executed the penalty correctly and made the final with 24:23.
The third semi-final will take place on Wednesday, March 29th with PAOK as the usual host. Nea Ionia has already qualified for the final.
It’s over and Nea Ionia is waiting
Nea Ionia secured qualification for the final of the A1 Women’s Championship. The Greek Cup winners also defeated Anagennisi 17:31 in Arta, doubling their victories in the semi-final stage and clinching the ticket to the title fights.
Nea Ionia had the game completely under control from the 25th minute and increased in the second half to 37:29 despite Dimtsoudi’s dismissal due to a dangerous game.
For Renaissance, the season ended in fourth place and the European ticket.
