OFNI – PAOK 18-19: Dikefalos managed the break in the first final
PAOK defeated Nea Ionia 19-18 to secure home field advantage in A1 women’s handball final after a terrible game.
PAOK Mateco defeated Nea Ionia in A1 Women’s 1st Finals, winning 19-18 and taking the first step to winning the championship.
The goalkeepers Magda Kepesidou and Katarina Tomasevic, who kept the score low with impressive interventions, were the main protagonists for the teams.
Both Nea Ionia and PAOK suffered two heavy defeats, the home team missed international left winger Christa Stougiannidou due to injury and the visiting team lost early in the game because international playmaker and captain Maria Hatziparasidou was sent off with a red card for hitting Kepesidou in the face with a penalty kick.
The North’s “two-headed” controlled the game in the first half, taking a 2-7 lead in the 20th minute, while Nea Ionia was trailing 7-9 at half-time and by a goal in the 32nd minute (8-9) minute came near. PAOK reacted and got away again with +4 (12-16 and 13-17) in the 49th minute, but the Greek Cup winners, led by Kepesidou, who had great interventions and two goals from one goal to the other, equaled 17-17 at 52 out’
The two goalkeepers stopped many shots, the score didn’t change for a few minutes until Dias scored at 57:53 to make it 17:18. Kmirova equalized on the next attack to make it 18-18 at 59:22, Dias again scored the winning goal with a terrific individual performance at 59:52 to make it 18-19 in the end!
The 2nd final will take place on Wednesday, April 26th at 5:00 p.m. in the “Home of Handball”, with the title being decided by the three victories.
